ABOUT ME AND WHO I AM AS A LEARNER

Hi! My name Is Jude and I am a Sophomore at Biomed Science Academy. I like to learn hands on and discussing topics and like to work with groups. This year I improved a lot of both my soft and hard skills I'm interested in the tech pathway and hope to get a job in cyber security.

PERSONAL NARRATIVE

Throughout this year I have improved in a multitude of ways and was able to learn lots of different things due to the new schedule with 21 different classes. I overcame the initial hurdle of condensed classes by significantly changing my schedule in order to maintain and increase productivity, which exemplified my personal agency attribute.

By increasing the number of classes, I was able to increase my collaboration skills exponentially by collaborating with others normally inaccessible due to them being in a separate age group, helping me showcase my Collaboration and Leadership attribute. I was also able to broaden multiple skills, such as learning how to find specific, thoroughly peer-reviewed academic sources using tools like Google Scholar to show off my engaged learning attribute.

Classes like “I know it all!” and “Byte Sized Success” helped me prepare for my future planned career in cyber security, requiring me to use critical thinking and adding to my tech lingo. Furthermore, I have worked on the ISC2 certification, marking a significant improvement from the beginning of the year with virtually zero knowledge on required concepts. As you have seen, this year helped move me forward significantly and allowed me to develop both hard and soft skills, narrowing down what I want to do for the future.

CURIOSITY / PROBLEM SOLVING

Mutation Madness

In this class we had to write a paper on results of bacteria growth from specific sites that we had excavated. In order to do this I had to learn how to research scientific and educational sites using tools like Google scholar.

New class schedules

This year introduced the new campaign schedules where we have 21 unique classes throughout the entire year. This obviously gave me more content I had to work on. I solved this by adjusting my schedule to better accommodate school by getting rid of some of the wasted downtime that was previously there.

LEADERSHIP / COLLABORATION

Proxy Wars of the 20th Century

Because of our new schedules I got to collaborate with peers outside of my grade level. In this class the majority of my peers were juniors while I was a sophomore. This allowed me to collaborate and work on projects with them when I normally would not be able to.

Friend group

Towards the beginning of the year there was some drama in my friend group and I stepped up in order to help resolve it.

MY CHOSEN PATHWAY

I chose the tech pathway this year which allows me to further my education within my interests. This pathway is a perfect match for my interest in the cybersecurity field. I specifically want to become part of an incident response team. They act and contain threats after they have happened. I would need a degree in computer sciences, Cyber security or something similar. A general security certification, such as CISSP or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). And an incident response certification. The mean salary is around $125,000 a year.

ISC2 CC Certification

While not complete yet, I'm working on the ISC2 certification in cyber security. I have worked on code academy to study for the in person exam when i'm ready. I have completed the training on code academy and i'm just working on studying for the actual test itself.

Connection to classes

One of my favorite classes was the class “I know it all!” where we researched on a specific topic that we chose. I ended up writing about the operating system “linux” and its benefits and drawbacks when compared to the typically used operating system “windows”. This class helped spark my curiosity for operating systems and specifically Linux.

I had to use critical thinking during this class in order to subjectively compare the two operating systems using trustworthy sources without bias. This class also helped me prepare for my future planned career in cyber security, giving me more in depth and innate knowledge of the operating system in order to secure and use it better in the future.

Linux vs Windows comparison

This was the final project for the class I Know It all! In this project we were tasked to research on whatever we wanted and create a 10 minute speech on the topic. I chose to write about a comparison of windows and linux and the pros and cons of both the operating systems. This project helped me get more familiar with the Linux operating systems for my future career in cyber security. In order to complete this project I had to figure out how to explain more complex topics in simple terminology.

BMSA Buzz Videos/assets

In this class “On Air” we we tasked with creating assets and videos for the BMSA buzz channel. Before i was able to submit the assignments we had to get them approved by the teacher to get feedback on our designs and approve upon them. This assignment helped develop my digital proficiency skills in order to effectively use digital assets.
